International Bachelor Program of Oral and Dental Medicine and Surgery "Credit Hour System"

 

Program Brief

• The program adopts the academic curriculum which depends on the application of the study system in credit hours, of which the student must pass 210 hours, and at the end of the program the bachelor's degree in dentistry (B.D.S) is awarded.

• The study period in the program includes ten basic semesters within five years, and the maximum study period is eight academic years (sixteen basic semesters).

 

Program Vision

Through this program, the college aspires to occupy an advanced position in providing the best educational service for dental sciences locally, regionally and internationally. This is achieved through graduating a dentist who has the knowledge and skills necessary to practice the profession of dentistry based on the scientific and ethical foundations at the level of the individual and society in accordance with international standards to qualify him to compete in the labor market.

 

Program Mission

Preparing and rehabilitating distinguished cadres in dentistry through advanced education based on the latest scientific methods and distinguished scientific research that makes it able to compete in the labor market locally and internationally and improve health services in the treatment of oral and dental diseases at the individual and societal level.

 

Program Aims

1.   Providing students with advanced and modern knowledge, information and skills that help them to excel and professionalism in the profession at the regional and international levels.

2.   Training students on how to link between academic and clinical studies, patient care, and the importance of the doctor-patient relationship.

3.   Consolidating the concepts of professional ethics, which determine the professional qualities of the dentist.

4.   Encouraging teamwork that helps increase students' communication skills.

5.   Strengthening students' active learning abilities by training them to use different sources of information and methods of research and study in order to reach the ability to solve clinical and professional problems.

6.   Finding educational channels that enable dealing with Egyptian and foreign universities in the field of oral and dental medicine.

7.   Training and preparing students for effective, good and continuous learning and training in the postgraduate period (postgraduate studies).

8.   Qualifying students to obtain postgraduate studies from international universities.

 

Mechanisms for Achieving Program Aims

1.   Following the global systems of self-learning in addition to other methods that encourage the student to think logically and critically and acquire skills through the use of sources such as books, references and the internet.

2.   Analysis and evaluation of the program, which is done through students’ feedback and analysis of examination results with a review of the program by internal and external auditors.

 

Program Language

• English is the language of study.

• With regard to teaching methods, the internationally-approved and recognized teaching methods are used in the program.

 

Program Semesters

• Fall semester (first): starts on the third Saturday in September for a period of 16 full academic weeks including exams.

• Spring (Second): starts on the second Saturday in February for a period of 16 full academic weeks, including exams.

• Summer Semester: starts on the third Saturday in July and lasts for 8 weeks of study, including exams.

6.   Providing a better learning environment for the student by dividing the students into small groups within the practical sessions.

7.   Availability of modern academic courses such as (Dental Implantology - Laser in Dentistry - Esthetic Dentistry - Marketing - Management Skills- Quality Control).

8.   The program provides three dates for graduation in the academic year (first semester - second semester - summer semester).

9.   The student obtains an academic certificate with the number of credit hours for each course, which is in a line with the credit hours regulations of the corresponding universities internationally, which qualifies them to obtain postgraduate studies from international universities.

 

Conditions for Program Joining

• Students are accepted into the program from among the students nominated by the Main Coordination Office of the Faculty of Dentistry - Tanta University in light of the minimum grade point average.

• Students enrolled in the main stream at Faculty of Dentistry, Tanta University or transferred from other public universities to the program are allowed to be accepted in accordance with the rules recommended by the Higher Committee to supervise the program and approved by the University Council.

• In the event that the number of students exceeds the suggested acceptance limit, an internal coordination will be made according to the total of his grades in the High Secondary Certificate.

• Admission of expatriates: Admission is carried out in accordance with the rules of admission of expatriates in Egyptian universities, the nomination of the expatriate administration and the fulfillment of admission requirements.
